The Trekking Day

A typical trekking day starts at first light, when a hot drink and warm water for washing are brought to your tent. After you have packed up your personal luggage and day pack, the tents are taken down and the porters load up. You tuck into a cooked breakfast, accompanied by cereals or porridge, bread and jam, tea and coffee.

Once breakfast is over, we set off and walk for three to four hours before breaking for a hot lunch or picnic along the way. You walk at your own pace – it is never a race to be first in camp but having missed out on everything along the way. There is always plenty to see and photograph – wonderful mountain views, village scenes and naturally the people you meet along the way who may be as curious about you as you are about them. Our local guides walk with you to add insight to your experiences.

We usually arrive at camp by mid-afternoon and your tents will be pre-erected. There is time to relax or explore your surroundings before dinner, a leisurely three-course meal in the mess tent. Your local trek leader will talk over the next day’s walk with you, by which time most trekkers are ready for bed!
