If you love steak as much as we do, we would like to introduce you to The Hussar Grill in Stellenbosch. We’re not the greatest fans of chain restaurants but we were pleasantly surprised by this particular branch in the heart of one of South Africa’s oldest towns - Stellenbosch.
The atmosphere was fantastic and the tables were a buzz of happy customers. The staff were overly friendly and excited about our arrival but we decided to go along with it. It may come across as fake at first but once you've visited this spot, you'll understand their enthusiasm!
It may seem strange but one of the great things about this place is the “no corkage fee” rule and we took advantage of this by bringing a fantastic Ernie Els red from our winetasting earlier that day.
When it comes to food, I can honestly say that we were blown away. We had the Chateaubriand and Sirloin on the bone. Our Steaks were delicious! Cooked to perfection and full of flavour.
We had the most amazing side of grilled mushrooms and a green salad to ease our guilty minds. We also indulged in the spiced butternut and creamed spinach combo.
I have to blame our server for all the food we ordered, he was so enthusiastic and sweet that we just couldn’t resist. He was spot on with every recommendation! Our only regret was not saving enough room for dessert. We've already eyed a New York Cheesecake for our next visit.
This is most definitely a steak house worth trying. Exceptional food and service in a cosy location.
