A new chapter for CAT Himalaya

Thirty-seven years ago, Doug Scott CBE founded Community Action Treks with a simple idea: that trekking in the Himalaya should give something back to the people who call it home. Today, that idea has a new home online — and a new chapter is beginning.

Charlie Knights August 2026 Company News CAT Himalaya

We're delighted to share that the new CAT Himalaya website is now live. It's a small thing to say out loud, but it represents a great deal of work — and, more importantly, a genuine new milestone for a company that's been quietly changing lives in Nepal since 1989.

// The Legacy
Carrying Doug's vision forward

Doug Scott was the first Briton to summit Everest via the South West Face, and he spent much of the rest of his life giving back to the mountains and people who shaped him. Community Action Treks — and its sister charity, Community Action Nepal — were born from that same instinct: that a trek should leave a place better than it found it. Under new co-directorship, that founding principle hasn't changed. It's simply being carried forward, with a new site, new energy, and new routes to match.

What's changed is how CAT operates day to day. Alongside long-standing tailor-made expeditions, we're now building out fixed departures across Manaslu, Annapurna, Everest Base Camp and beyond — opening the door to trekkers who've never travelled with us before, including many joining solo. Every booking still carries a direct £50 donation to Community Action Nepal, visible on your confirmation, not buried in the price.

"This isn't a rebrand for its own sake. It's the same values Doug set out thirty-seven years ago, just given a proper home to be found by the people who'd genuinely want it."

What's new on the site

The new catreks.com brings together everything CAT does in one place — full trek pages for Manaslu, Annapurna, Everest Base Camp and CAT Summits, a dedicated Doug Scott legacy page, and a growing blog covering trek preparation, route comparisons, and life on the trail. There's more still to come, including guest testimonials and full Sherpa guide profiles, but the foundations are in place.

Why now

CAT has always run on word of mouth, trust, and the strength of relationships built over decades in Kathmandu and beyond. That won't change. But a proper website means the people who'd love what CAT does — and haven't heard of us yet — finally have a way to find us. If you've stumbled across this page organically, welcome. You're exactly who this was built for.
